BUCHAREST JEWISH HERITAGE
Once a city with a total Jewish population of 70,000, Bucharest counts now only 3,500 members. In spite of the reduced size, the community is strong and is represented by six synagogues, a theatre and a school. Out of the six synagogues only three are in use: The Holy Union Temple, The Great Synagogue and The Coral Temple.
Itinerary
We start our tour with the visit of Th Holy Union Temple that houses the Museum of the history of the Romanian Jewish community, and then we take a nice stroll to the Great Synagogue & the Holocaust Museum followed by the recently renovated Coral Temple, all examples of 19th century architecture and silent witnesses of the ups and downs of the Jewish community in Bucharest. After lunch, which can be arranged in one of the many restaurants in the old part of the city, we head to the Romanian Holocaust Memorial, an ensemble of symbolic sculptures unveiled in 2009.
We finish the day with a drive through the city to see the landmarks of the capital of Romania before we head back.

BUCHAREST COMMUNIST HERITAGE
The capital of Romania is not just an ex-communist city. This tour will provide you with the means to understand the hundreds of years of history and various influences that make up the bustling city Bucharest is today. From the remains of the medieval court of the famous Vlad the Impaler, to splendid fin de siècle palaces of the former aristocrats and megalomaniac structures of communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu – this tour will help you take it all in.
We begin our tour in what is known today as the Revolution Square to see the sights of the 1989 Romanian revolution and to hear the story behind the images with Ceausescu speaking from his balcony for the last time. We visit the second largest building in the world – the Parliament of Romania the symbol of communist transformation of Bucharest. We continue our tour around the city to see and to hear more about that "Golden age" of Romania.
Optional we can drive to Targoviste the place of the trial and execution of Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu.
* Please BE ADVISED that the visit to the Parliament includes a lot of steps (about 300 in total up and down at various stages of the visit). PASSPORTS are mandatory for the visit to the Parliament because of security measures. Lunch can be arranged upon request in one of the historical restaurants of Bucharest (€10 – 15/ person)
